Sensor simulation and position calibration for the CMS pixel detector

چکیده
In this paper a detailed simulation of irradiated pixel sensors was used to investigate the effects of radiation damage on charge sharing and position determination. The simulation implements a model of radiation damage by including two defect levels with opposite charge states and trapping of charge carriers. We show that charge sharing functions extracted from the simulation can be parameterized as a function of the inter-pixel position and used to improve the position determination. For sensors irradiated to Φ = 5.9×10 neq/cm 2 a position resolution below 15 μm can be achieved after calibration.

The HIP Algorithm for Track Based Alignment and its Application to the CMS Pixel Detector
Good geometrical alignment is essential to fully benefit from the excellent intrinsic resolution of the CMS silicon tracker. Since the tracker consists of about 20000 independent silicon sensors, of the order parameters are needed for the alignment. The determination of these constants with the required precision of about is an extremely challenging task. In this paper an effective and computat...
متن کامل A novel approach to automatic position calibration for pixelated crystals in gamma imaging
Introduction: The position estimation in gamma detection system will have constant misplacements which can be corrected in the calibration procedure. In the pixelated crystal uniformly irradiation of detector will produce irregular shape due to position estimation errors. This image is called flood field image and is used to calibrate the position estimation. In this work we pr...
متن کاملExperience with CMS pixel software commissioning
The CMS Pixel detector, consisting of three barrel layers and two endcap disks at each barrel end, was installed in the CMS experiment in summer 2008. After a preliminary commissioning phase with pulse injections the detector participated to data taking with cosmic ray trigger and 3.8T field. In this article, we describe the software for event reconstruction, as well as the status of the calibr...

متن کاملCMS Silicon Pixel Detector Calibration
The Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) pixel group at Cornell University is building a silicon pixel detector test station that will model the detection and data acquisition system designed for the CMS experiment at the Large Hardron Collider (LHC) at CERN. With parts of the apparatus already functional, we have begun to understand and optimize the detector’s programmable settings, called DACs, that t...
